Shirley es una joven y bella pintora que tímidamente muestra por primera vez su obra, rica en hallazgos plásticos y profunda en contenido humanístico. A pesar de su extrema juventud, el bagaje cultural de Shirley es abundante. Desde hace años, Shirley trabaja con la disciplina y pasión necesarias para producir una obra que merezca el calificativo de profesional; Shirley, además, es una persona sensible y bien informada.
En el arte mexicano abundan los improvisados o los fastidiosos productores de objetos decorativos que suelen ser calificados de artísticos por una crítica provinciana y poco amenazada. Se cocina a diario una extraña mezcolanza en la que es difícil distinguir valores verdaderos. En este medio caótico ha surgido Shirley, que por su seriedad y talento excepcionales merece nuestra atención y fervor.
Shirley nos está hablando en su obra figurativa del hombre de nuestro tiempo, al que a veces sitúa en paisajes sombríos. Han pasado algunos años desde que contemplé un cuadro de esta pintora por primera vez. Ahora Shirley ha crecido, ha madurado y debemos ver su obra actual, más que como una promesa, como una espléndida realidad. Young and beautiful, Shirley is an artist who for the first time shows, yet timidly, her pictorial work, rich in plastic findings and deep in humanistic content. Besides the fact that she is extremely young, her cultural baggage is rather wide. Sensitive and quite informal, for many years Shirley has been producing a work full of passion and inherent discipline that deserves to be called professional.
In the field of Mexican art, there are many improvised or disrespectful makers of decorative objects that parroquial and not enough threatened critics use to qualify as art pieces. A strange mixture—in which it is difficult to distinguish true values—is produced everyday. Within this chaotic scenario Shirley has emerged, and due to her outstanding professionalism and talent she deserves our fervor as well as our attentive sight.
Sometimes, in her figurative work, Shirley portrays in gloomy settings the man of our time. Many years have passed since I first observed one of her paintings. Shirley is now grown-up and mature, and we should look at her latest work not only as a future promise, but as a splendid reality. There is no doubt; Shirley is one of the most gifted artists in this new generation of Mexican painters.
